How it works

Assessed first, needled second.

Fire cupping

Cupping, done the traditional way.

Fire cupping uses glass cups placed on the skin with gentle suction, drawing the tissue upward rather than pressing into it. It is often used alongside acupuncture in the same session, most commonly across the back and shoulders, for muscular tension. The round marks it can leave are from the suction — similar to a light bruise — and typically fade over several days. Your practitioner walks you through what to expect before any cups are placed.

Common questions

Answers before you book.

Is acupuncture covered by insurance?

Many extended health plans cover acupuncture from a registered practitioner, and we direct bill the major providers so you are not paying up front. See our insurance and direct billing page for the full list of insurers we bill.

Do I need a referral for acupuncture?

No, you can book directly with us. Some plans do ask for a doctor’s note before reimbursing acupuncture specifically, so it is worth checking your policy — that is a plan rule, not a clinic requirement.

What is acupuncture used for?

Fine-needle treatment for pain, muscular tension and stress, often used alongside physiotherapy or chiropractic care for the same injury rather than as a standalone therapy.

Who performs the treatment?

A registered acupuncture practitioner at our North York clinic. Your first session includes an assessment of your symptoms and history before any needling begins.

Can acupuncture be part of a motor vehicle accident or WSIB recovery plan?

Yes, where clinically appropriate. We complete the OCF forms for auto accident claims and bill WSIB directly for approved workplace injuries, and acupuncture can be included in that treatment plan alongside physiotherapy or chiropractic care.

What is fire cupping, and what are the round marks it leaves?

Fire cupping places glass cups on the skin with gentle suction, drawing the tissue upward — it is often used alongside acupuncture for muscular tension. The round marks it can leave are from the suction, similar to a light bruise, and typically fade over several days. Your practitioner explains what to expect before any cups are placed.
