The first days
Just had an accident? Do these three things.
The hours after a collision are disorienting, and the insurance clock starts quietly running. Here is the short version of what actually matters.
1. Get checked — even if you feel okay
Whiplash and soft-tissue injuries often surface a day or two after the adrenaline fades. See a doctor or walk-in clinic and get the visit on record. Go to the emergency department first for any red flags: loss of consciousness, worsening headache, numbness or weakness, confusion, or vision changes.
Day 0–22. Tell your insurer the accident happened
Ontario’s accident benefits rules expect you to notify your own auto insurer within about seven days of the collision — a phone call opening the claim is enough. They will send you an application package.
Within ~7 days3. Book your assessment — the paperwork stops being yours
From your first visit, we take over the forms. The application package your insurer sent, the treatment plan, the ongoing approvals — completed and submitted by our clinic. If a claim has not been opened yet, we help you start it at the front desk.
We take overGeneral information about Ontario’s accident benefits system, not legal advice — deadlines can differ by situation, and your insurer’s package states yours.
Full-service claims desk
What “we handle it” actually means here.
Plenty of clinics say they help with MVA paperwork. Here is the specific list of what our front desk does so you do not have to.
Forms — completed and submitted
The OCF-1 that opens your benefits, the OCF-18 treatment plan, the OCF-23 for minor-injury treatment — we fill them out and we file them with your insurer. You review and sign; you never draft a form.
Your adjuster — handled
Approvals, renewals of treatment plans, requests for information, progress documentation — we correspond with your insurance adjuster directly, so treatment decisions do not stall on unanswered emails.
Billing — direct to the insurer
Approved MVA treatment is billed straight to your auto insurer. For most patients that means nothing to pay at the desk, visit after visit.
Your lawyer — kept in the loop
Treatment does not require a lawyer — but if you have one, or a paralegal, we coordinate with their office so your clinical records and your claim tell the same story.
Who’s covered
More people than you would think.
Ontario’s accident benefits are no-fault: they come from your own policy, and they exist for nearly everyone a collision touches.
Covered under accident benefits
- Drivers — including at-fault drivers
- Passengers in any vehicle involved
- Pedestrians struck by a vehicle
- Cyclists hit by a vehicle
No car of your own? A household member’s policy, the involved vehicle’s insurer, or Ontario’s Motor Vehicle Accident Claims Fund can apply — we will help you work out which at your first visit.
Starting quickly, by design
Many collision injuries fall under Ontario’s Minor Injury Guideline, which comes with a pre-set treatment framework — meaning care can begin promptly rather than waiting on case-by-case approval. Where injuries are more serious, we prepare the treatment plan and pursue the approvals with your adjuster.
How it works
You get treated. We deal with the insurer.
Most people injured in a collision delay treatment because they assume it will cost them money or drown them in paperwork. In Ontario, neither is usually true.
1. Call or book online
No referral needed. Bring your accident date and, if you have it, your insurance claim number. If a claim has not been opened yet, we will start it with you.
Same week2. Full assessment
A registered physiotherapist assesses your injuries, explains what they find in plain language, and builds a treatment plan — typically whiplash, back and neck pain, shoulder injuries, headaches or reduced range of motion.
1 hour3. We submit your OCF forms
We complete and file the OCF-1, OCF-18 and OCF-23 with your auto insurer and correspond with the adjuster directly. You do not fill out the forms.
We handle it4. Treatment, billed directly
Physiotherapy, chiropractic care, registered massage therapy and acupuncture as your plan requires — all in one clinic, billed to your insurer, usually with nothing payable by you.
No upfront costWhy one clinic matters
Your whole recovery team is in one building.
Accident recovery rarely needs just one kind of treatment. Most clinics send you somewhere else for the rest of it.

New as of 1 July 2026
Your work benefits are no longer used up first.
Ontario changed how accident benefits are paid this summer, and it works in your favour. Auto insurance now pays first for medical and rehabilitation care after a collision — medication costs aside.
What this means for you
Previously, accident treatment could draw down the paramedical allowance in your workplace health plan. Now your auto insurer covers the accident care, so that allowance stays available for massage, physiotherapy or acupuncture unrelated to the collision. In practice: you can be treated for your accident and still have your regular benefits for the rest of the year.
Still mandatory in every policy
- Medical benefits
- Rehabilitation benefits
- Attendant care
Some other accident benefits became optional on 1 July 2026, but the medical and rehabilitation coverage that pays for treatment here remains in every Ontario policy. Source: Insurance Bureau of Canada.
Common questions
Answers before you book.
Does my car insurance cover physiotherapy after an accident in Ontario?
In most cases, yes. Ontario’s statutory accident benefits cover physiotherapy, chiropractic care, massage therapy and acupuncture after a motor vehicle accident — paid through your own auto insurer, regardless of who was at fault. Coverage applies whether you were the driver, a passenger, a cyclist or a pedestrian.
Do I pay anything upfront?
Normally nothing. We bill your auto insurer directly under your accident benefits, so there is usually no cost to you. If your claim has not been opened yet, we can start that process at your first visit.
What are OCF forms and do I have to fill them out?
OCF forms are the standard Ontario paperwork that opens and manages an accident benefits claim. We complete the OCF-1 (application for benefits), OCF-18 (treatment plan) and OCF-23 (minor injury treatment confirmation) on your behalf and submit them to your insurer directly. You do not fill them out yourself.
Do I need a doctor’s referral to start treatment?
No. In Ontario, physiotherapists and chiropractors are primary care practitioners, so you can book with iBODY directly. You do not need a referral from your family doctor or from a lawyer.
How soon after the accident should I start?
As soon as you are able. Early treatment tends to improve recovery from whiplash and soft-tissue injuries, and starting promptly also makes the insurance claim simpler. If your accident was weeks or months ago, you may still be eligible — call us and we will check.
Does this use up my work benefits?
No — and this changed recently. As of July 1, 2026, auto insurance pays first for medical and rehabilitation benefits after a car accident in Ontario (medication costs are the exception). That means your extended health plan through work is not billed first, so your annual paramedical allowance stays intact for massage, physiotherapy or acupuncture unrelated to the accident.
I was at fault — am I still covered?
Yes. Ontario’s accident benefits are no-fault: your medical and rehabilitation coverage comes from your own policy regardless of who caused the collision. Being at fault affects other parts of a claim, not your right to treatment.
Do I need a lawyer before starting treatment?
No. Treatment under accident benefits does not require a lawyer, and waiting to hire one before booking only delays your recovery. If you do have a lawyer or paralegal, we coordinate with their office — records, reports and timelines.
I started treatment somewhere else. Can I switch to iBODY?
Yes — you choose your own health providers under Ontario’s accident benefits. We take over the file, coordinate the paperwork transition with your insurer, and continue your care without restarting the claim.
What deadlines do I need to know about?
Two matter most: notify your insurer within about seven days of the collision, and return the completed application within about thirty days of receiving it — which we complete with you. This is general information rather than legal advice; your insurer’s package states the deadlines that apply to you.
What if I was injured at work instead?
We also treat approved WSIB claims and bill the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board directly. Bring your claim number to your first visit.
